Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’ , sometimes called Balkan Clary, is a perennial which has a long life expectancy. These plants require literally no maintenance, once they are established; they can be left for several years and will hold their own in the garden. Masses of violet blue flowers appear starting in May or early June. The stems are very dark blue, almost black. Flowers are produced for a couple of months. The best soil for growing Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’ is a light well-draining one such as loam, chalk or sand. This plant will thrive in an area that receives moderate sunshine and is planted in a soil that is relatively moist. The beauty of the Salvia Caradonna is the beautiful fragrance and stunning colours can be brought into your home, as these flowers can be cut and put into a vase within the household. This plant makes a great boarder plant and can also be grown in pots, containers, rockeries and flower beds. Salvia plants are pollinator plants and are great for bees as the plant provides masses of colour and fragrance.
