Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’ , sometimes called Balkan Clary, is a perennial which has a long life expectancy. These plants require literally no maintenance, once they are established; they can be left for several years and will hold their own in the garden. Masses of violet blue flowers appear starting in May or early June. The stems are very dark blue, almost black. Flowers are produced for a couple of months. The best soil for growing Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’ is a light well-draining one such as loam, chalk or sand. This plant will thrive in an area that receives moderate sunshine and is planted in a soil that is relatively moist.
